Hurry before Summer Disappears !

Our summer seems rather short this year because of a late start. It is certainly here now:
plants, animals and humans all in vivid colors. Bikini clad people baking in the summer
sun while kids frolic in the surf.

Have you noticed how intense the heat seems to be this year and yet the temperature is
not too hot. Weather and climate change is one thing to consider but I think it stems from
Global warming. Besides scientists have people given much thought as to why we are
experiencing unusual weather conditions across the nation? Global warming is already
affecting the human kind, plants, and animals in numbers of ways through increased
oceans, droughts and changed weather patterns. It is well recognized by scientists around
the world as a serious public health and environmental concern. I researched Google on
this extensive subject. One article listed 24 effects of Global Warming on the
environment. Each one listed needs to be considered. I will only mention two here. 1 –
“Glaciers” – The melting of glaciers will create a plethora of problems for human kind
and animals on earth. 2 “Health Risks”- As more carbon dioxide is trapped in the
atmosphere, breathable air becomes harder to come by. If Global warming continues, the
US is looking at 60 billion dollars to combat respiratory diseases and symptoms.
Life as we know it today will take serious changes. I am not trying to be a harbinger of
doom but we need to start now to make changes.

On the lighter side, did you know that Friday the 13th is not just for Halloween? It is a
little known holiday and takes place in July. Yours truly was 13; Friday, July 13th. The
holiday has biblical origins.. For example, in the bible there were 12 apostles, with the
Lord it made 13. The US seal has 13 stars. There is a long list and worth reading. Perhaps
you’d like to check your local animal shelter for a “black” cat.

Update on the Kamper/Stevens renovation. The seniors are settling in to their shiny new
“homes” and the quality of life has improved for them. This is just the start. The problem
of no grocery or retail stores with affordable prices remain. How many years will it be
before “Gilbert Town” (Detroit) corrects this issue. I just learned that another top dollar
chain, IHop/Applebee’s will be at the Milner Center/Marriott Courtyard soon. Just what
we need. Thank heaven for Tim Horton’s! There is a new way to spell SENIOR –
“DETERMINATION”, we’ll be here when things change.

A friend of mine took a survey of ten people walking down the street. The majority of
Americans, 9 out of ten, have “turned on” technology and “turned off” humanity. Cell
phones, music or some device is glued to their ears. No wonder accidents happen.
The “Big D’ is getting ready to celebrate the 4th of July. Festivals, Tiger games and
Campus Martius with its beach area are packed with families and party-goers. Everything
is Red/White/Blue.

Enjoy the holiday! Till next time. Michelle
