We go through snow, freezing temperatures, wind and rain waiting for summer to arrive and then it’s gone in a blink! It’s August, half the year is over. Providing the weather holds, everyone is going to make summer last for as long as possible. We still have Indian summer, the weather is just a little cooler and there are plenty of fun things to do and places to go. Tiger fans can still cheer their team on until late September.

It’s finally summer and the weather has soared to 90 degrees! The beaches are crowded with bikini-clad sun worshippers (bikini? more like extra large band-aids), dogs of all descriptions and kids wearing colorful animal shaped inner-tubes. If you are too busy to go to the beach there is always Campus Martius with its beach-like area, plenty of sand and beautiful fountains. Not bad on a sunny hot day, you can even go there on your lunch break. “Kids” enjoy it too. Don’t forget the sunscreen.

We are at the half-way point of the year and activity in the downtown “D” is in high gear. Schools are almost out for summer recess and graduation day are upon us. What the future holds for these countless bright young people is anyone’s guess. Only God alone knows the answer. I think they will find as the years go by, that the work-a-day world is altogether different than what they may have thought. Experience is really the best teacher.
